AWS Managed Services and Managed Security Services for Education Platform

AWS Manage Services

Educational Health Curriculum Platform

TThe Great Body Shop, published by The Children’s Health Market, is a nationally recognised comprehensive health education curriculum for Pre-K through 8th grade students. Since 1987, over 5 million students have grown up learning about health from The Great Body Shop. CloudiQS delivers ongoing AWS Managed Services and Managed Security Services, providing continuous infrastructure operations, FERPA-aligned security governance, scalability management, and operational resilience for an education platform serving schools across all 50 US states.

Customer Challenges

As demand for online health education surged post-pandemic, The Children’s Health Market’s legacy infrastructure struggled to handle simultaneous access from thousands of teachers and students during critical back-to-school periods.

Every August and September, the platform experienced outages during peak usage windows, disrupting classrooms and slowing new district onboarding. Educational videos and interactive content loaded slowly, particularly in rural school districts with limited bandwidth. The desktop-centric platform delivered inconsistent performance across tablets and Chromebooks now widely used in classrooms.

Key challenges included:

  • Seasonal outages every August and September during school onboarding peaks
  • Slow content delivery in rural districts with limited bandwidth
  • No FERPA-compliant security monitoring, audit logging, or encryption governance
  • No continuous threat detection or structured incident response framework
  • Manual patching and reactive scaling creating availability risks
  • No validated disaster recovery or business continuity planning
  • Inconsistent performance across classroom devices (tablets, Chromebooks)

The organisation required a modern cloud architecture and a managed services partner capable of delivering continuous infrastructure operations, security monitoring, FERPA compliance governance, incident response, and performance optimisation.

Our Solution

CCloudiQS designed and implemented a modern AWS architecture optimised for scalability, security, and performance, with comprehensive managed services covering both infrastructure operations and security operations.

Cloud Infrastructure:

  • Amazon CloudFront for global edge content delivery, reducing latency for rural school districts
  • AWS Elastic Beanstalk with Auto Scaling dynamically adjusting capacity from 4 to 20+ instances during peak back-to-school periods
  • AWS MediaConvert for adaptive bitrate video streaming supporting low-bandwidth classroom environments
  • Amazon RDS MySQL Multi-AZ with read replicas for high availability and fault tolerance
  • Amazon CloudWatch with custom dashboards for platform health, concurrent users, page load times, and video streaming metrics
  • CI/CD pipelines via AWS CodePipeline enabling same-day curriculum updates (previously 2 weeks)
  • Infrastructure as Code via AWS CloudFormation for repeatable deployments

Security and Compliance Architecture:

  • Amazon GuardDuty for continuous threat detection across all accounts
  • AWS Security Hub with FSBP and CIS benchmarks for centralised security posture management
  • Amazon Inspector for automated vulnerability scanning across compute workloads
  • AWS WAF with managed and custom rule groups protecting the application from web-based attacks
  • AWS KMS with customer-managed keys for encryption of student data at rest
  • AWS CloudTrail with log file validation providing FERPA-required audit trails for all API activity
  • AWS Config with compliance rules including custom FERPA-specific rules for student data access controls
  • IAM Identity Center with MFA enforcement for all administrative access
  • Amazon EventBridge routing operational and security events to CloudiQS via PagerDuty
  • AWS Systems Manager for automated patching and secure session management

Resilience Architecture:

Predictive Auto Scaling based on historical back-to-school traffic patterns

AWS Backup with automated daily and weekly plans

Documented RTO (4 hours) and RPO (4 hours) targets with annual DR testing before each academic year

Multi-AZ deployment across all critical tiers
