Educational Health Curriculum Platform

The Great Body Shop, published by The Children’s Health Market, is a nationally recognized comprehensive health education curriculum for Pre-K through 8th grade students. Since 1987, over 5 million students have grown up learning about health from The Great Body Shop. The platform delivers evidence-based curriculum covering physical health, nutrition, safety, mental health, social-emotional learning, and substance abuse prevention to schools across all 50 states.

Customer Challenges

As demand for online health education surged post-pandemic, The Children’s Health Market’s legacy infrastructure struggled to handle simultaneous access from thousands of teachers and students during critical back-to-school periods. Every August and September, the platform experienced crashes during peak hours, frustrating educators and preventing new district adoptions. Educational videos and interactive content loaded slowly, especially for rural schools with limited bandwidth, resulting in poor learning experiences. With increasing use of tablets and Chromebooks in classrooms, the desktop-centric platform delivered suboptimal mobile experiences. FERPA compliance requirements for student data privacy demanded comprehensive audit trails and security controls that the legacy infrastructure couldn’t provide. Migrating to Amazon Web Services (AWS) enabled The Children’s Health Market to deliver fast, reliable access to health curriculum for millions of students, achieve zero downtime during peak periods, and meet stringent educational compliance requirements — all while reducing costs and enabling rapid curriculum updates.

Our Solution

Our Solution: At CloudiQS, leveraging our AWS Education Competency expertise, we designed a modern, scalable architecture optimized for educational content delivery and student data protection. By implementing Amazon CloudFront CDN for global content delivery, AWS Elastic Beanstalk with Auto Scaling for automatic capacity management, and AWS MediaConvert for adaptive bitrate video streaming, we ensured fast, reliable access even on limited bandwidth connections. We deployed Amazon RDS MySQL with Multi-AZ for high availability, implemented comprehensive FERPA-compliant security with AWS KMS encryption and CloudTrail audit logging, and established CI/CD pipelines enabling same-day curriculum updates. Combined with AWS WAF for web application protection, S3 Intelligent-Tiering for cost-optimized storage, and CloudWatch monitoring for performance insights, this architecture delivers the reliability, performance, and compliance that educational institutions demand.
